Doctor Aghel, an herbalist said: "Borage is herbaceous perennial plant and has covered the soft fibers, straight or bent stems and simple leaves with a unique vein, large flowers and bluish-purple color that appears in the months May to July in small numbers flowers on the shoot ". He added: "the fruit of plant borage is achene, sharp and covered with numerous small bumps. The flowers of this plant called borage are collected from the mountains of north of Iran and offered to the Iranian market". This plant grows in a wide area of Iran's north. Doctor Aghel pointed out that products of this plant are supplying from borage flowers, and specified: "Borage's petal contains Anthocyanin (13%), alkaloids (pyrrolizidine group in minor amounts), phenolic compounds (such as rosmarinic acid) and minor amounts of essential oils (05/0 percent) ".This pharmaceutical botanist noted: "The medicinal properties of this plant are such as calming nerves, diaphoretic and nutritious, the elimination of violence and hoarseness, cough and mucus and strengthen the immune system". He added: "In traditional medicine, this plant is used as treating pneumonia and Iranian researchers have stressed based on the findings of this study that aqueous extract of borage is safe and effective drugs for the treatment of patients with obsessive-compulsive disorder (Although further studies are needed to confirm it) ".
